The purpose of this familiarisation

This familiarisation gives you the chance to experience what it is like to take the Haberdashers’ Boys’ School Reasoning Exam.

This familiarisation will cover the following aspects of the exam:

  • How to complete your personal details
  • The type of questions covered in the exam
  • How the questions are presented
  • How the questions should be answered

The look and feel of this familiarisation is the same as the exam.

Topics

The Haberdashers’ Boys’ School Reasoning Exam includes questions measuring:

  • Verbal Ability: Covering vocabulary, grammar and comprehension

  • Numerical Ability: Covering arithmetic and problem solving

  • Non-verbal Ability

Sections

Each exam includes separate timed sections, each designed to test a particular topic.

Each section begins with examples of how to answer the questions.

Before the start of each section, you will be told how many questions there are and the time available.

In most sections you move from question to question using the 'Next' and 'Previous' buttons.

The exam is designed so that you must use all the time allocated for each section. If you reach the end of a section you will be sent back to the first question. In some sections you will not be able to progress onto the next section until you have answered all the questions correctly or you have run out of time.

Answering questions

Questions within each section will require you to answer in a particular way. There are three types of response:

Multiple Choice: Click on one of the several options available. The option selected will be highlighted in yellow.

Drag and Drop: Drag one or more of the options into the boxes or areas available.

Complete the Word: Using the keyboard, type in the letters required to complete a word. After entering two correct letters, the word will automatically complete.
